Rosemary Ferguson - Nutrition

Rosemary comes from a particularly health-conscious family background - homeopaths, a kinesiologist and a Grandmother who ran one of the UK’s first health shops - so after a fast-paced and successful career in the modelling world she returned to her roots and qualified as a Nutritionist and Naturopath leading her onto founding her own Harley Street practice, The 5 Day Plan and co-founding FiLTH, a healthy fast food company with Gizzi Erskine. Needless to say, Rosemary knows what it’s like to feel the effects of our modern, hectic lifestyles and has focussed on making ‘healthy living’ achievable for all.

Having come from a homeopathic and complementary medicine background, what is your focus and philosophy?

My philosophy is all about making healthy living achievable; I believe that life has to be lived and through nutrition and a bit of self-care you can give your body the tools it needs to cope with the crazy lives we lead. I believe that food should be the first port of call to feel better in yourself, mentally and physically.

I modelled for a long time: travelling, working, playing and feeling run down. I spent an even longer time being less than angelic! I am pretty well versed in fatigue and stress. More recently, I have stressed my body and mind in other ways, doing triathlons and the marathon while being a mother, working and having fun. Basically, I am saying that I understand how much we put our bodies through and how little time we have to look after ourselves.

Why is nutrition so important when it comes to our well being?

Food is a massive tool for your body. What you put in your mouth affects everything - energy levels, mood, hormones, blood sugar levels, sleep, focus, concentration, skin, physical performance etc. Making better food choices will improve your overall wellbeing. This doesn’t have to be drastic simply add more vegetables to your every plate or add more fibre etc.

In what small way can we become more aware of our day-to-day nutrition?

Intuitive eating – simply eating when you’re hungry. Chewing your food really well so you stop once your full to avoid overeating. As you eat, be in tune with your body to see how the nutrients react with your body to suss any issues. Eat more vegetables!

Can you tell us about The 5 Day Plan?

My 5 day plan runs once a month, Monday to Friday and each day a delivery is made to your door with breakfast, lunch, dinner, supplements, juices and snacks designed to stimulate the metabolism, give the digestive system a break, increase energy levels, boost the immune system and give the body a well needed nourishment of nutrient-dense vitamins and minerals. One benefit of these 5 days is that it will really highlight where people can make your diet more nutrient-dense and how often they go for the less than ideal food choice.

If you could share one pearl of wisdom - what would it be?

Manage STRESS. One of the biggest things I see in clinic is stress and fatigue. People can’t sleep, can’t lose weight, have skin problems etc and the main factor is STRESS. The environment we live in is getting more challenging and we need to really tune in on how to manage this. I recommend taking an adrenal supplement or a potent B Vitamin, eating a fresh whole food diet, practice meditation, yoga, getting regular massages or whatever works for you.

What is your favourite ritual?

I’ve recently got into bulletproof coffee (but I don’t drink coffee so the cacao/collagen alternative) by the Ancient and Brave. I love the ritual of making it because it feels like the ritual of making a coffee and it’s delicious and gives me a  boost of energy.

Do you practice any other form of self-care?

Trying to be in the moment and switch off. Being self-employed is hard at times as your mind is constantly ticking, your emails become a live feed as well as your social media. I practise yoga too which always makes me feel amazing.

How can we follow you and your work?
